If We Place It in the Hands of Jesus
There are certain moments in life that leave a mark on your heart.
For me, one of those moments came during my promotion cycle at work.
I remember walking away from a conversation feeling deeply discouraged. It felt as though my future depended entirely on someone else's decision. I began questioning myself.
"Maybe I'm not experienced enough."
"Maybe what I've done isn't enough."
"Maybe I need to work harder to prove myself."
The more I thought about it, the heavier my heart became.
That evening, I did the only thing I knew to do.
I went to Jesus.
I wasn't angry. I wasn't demanding a promotion. I simply laid my heart before Him.
I prayed,
"Lord, I'm placing this small work that I do into Your mighty hands. Maybe my experience isn't enough. Maybe my work seems too small. But once it is in Your hands, You do as You wish."
Looking back, I didn't realize it then, but that prayer echoed a story that had happened over two thousand years ago.
A little boy stood among thousands of hungry people.
In his hands were only five loaves and two fish.
If you asked anyone standing there whether it would be enough, they would have laughed.
The disciples looked at the crowd.
They looked at the food.
Then they did the math.
Five loaves.
Two fish.
Five thousand men, besides women and children.
The conclusion was obvious.
"This isn't enough."
But Jesus never asked whether it was enough.
He simply asked for it to be placed into His hands.
That has changed the way I read this miracle.
The miracle wasn't about bread.
The miracle wasn't even about feeding five thousand people.
The miracle began the moment something small was placed into the hands of Jesus.
The little boy didn't know how Jesus would do it.
He didn't have a strategy.
He didn't have a backup plan.
He simply trusted Jesus with what he had.
And Jesus multiplied what seemed insignificant into something that blessed thousands.
That story became my story.
I didn't have five loaves and two fish.
I had my work.
My effort.
My skills.
My experience.
To me, it felt small.
It felt ordinary.
It felt like it wasn't enough.
But I learned something that changed my life.
God has never asked us to bring greatness.
He asks us to bring what we have.
We often wait until we think we're "ready" before giving something to God.
"I'll serve when I'm better."
"I'll start when I have more money."
"I'll obey when I feel qualified."
But Jesus has always worked differently.
Moses had a staff.
David had a sling.
The widow had a little oil.
The little boy had a small lunch.
None of these looked impressive.
Yet each became extraordinary because they were surrendered to God.
Five months after that prayer, by God's grace, I received my promotion.
Was the promotion the greatest miracle?
No.
The greatest miracle had already happened.
Somewhere between my prayer and God's answer, my heart changed.
I stopped believing that my future rested in human hands.
I began believing that my future rested in the hands of Jesus.
The promotion became a beautiful reminder of a truth I had already learned.
When something is placed in the hands of Jesus, it is no longer limited by our ability.
It is defined by His power.
Perhaps today you're holding something that feels too small.
A dream.
A business.
A ministry.
A family burden.
A career.
A prayer that has gone unanswered.
Or maybe you're simply holding your own insecurities.
Don't underestimate what Jesus can do with what you've surrendered.
The question isn't whether what you have is enough.
The question is:
Whose hands is it in?
Because our hands have limits.
His hands do not.
Our hands reach an end.
His hands create new beginnings.
Our hands see impossibilities.
His hands perform miracles.
Today, I still pray the same prayer.
"Lord, I'm placing this into Your hands."
And every time I do, I'm reminded of a little boy whose lunch became a miracle—not because it was large, but because it was surrendered.
If there's one truth I hope you carry with you after reading this, it's this:
Whatever is placed in the hands of Jesus is never too small for Him to use.
Because once it is in His hands...
Everything becomes possible.
If we place it in the hands of Jesus, everything is possible.
