A Risk of Faith – The Daddy Daughter Duo (The Story of Jairus)
Jairus was the leader of a local synagogue in Israel during Jesus’ time. He had a beloved daughter — his little princess.
Every evening when Jairus returned home from the synagogue, his daughter would run to him, leap into his arms, and shower him with kisses.
They laughed together. They played together. They were inseparable.
But one day, everything changed.
💔 The Daughter Falls Sick
One day, Jairus’ daughter developed a fever.
At first, it seemed like an ordinary illness.
But the fever wouldn’t go away.
It grew worse.
The vibrant little girl who once ran to greet her father now lay motionless in bed.
She didn’t laugh anymore.
She didn’t play anymore.
She couldn’t even kiss her daddy when he came home.
Jairus’ heart broke. He wept privately, praying, “Why did this fever hit my daughter? Why not me instead?”
He consulted the best doctors in town.
He spent all his wealth.
But nothing worked.
His daughter’s condition only worsened.
🙏 Jairus Goes to Jesus
Jairus had heard about Jesus — the miracles He performed, the sick He healed, the dead He raised.
Out of desperation and love, Jairus left his synagogue and went in search of Jesus.
When he found Him, he didn’t hesitate:
He fell at Jesus’ feet.
He pleaded with Him. (The word “pleaded” means “to make an emotional appeal.”)
He cried out:
“My little princess is at the point of death. Please come, place Your hands on her, and she will live.”
He didn’t care about his status or dignity.
He didn’t think about his position as a synagogue leader.
👉 He was a loving father willing to risk everything for his daughter.
👂 Jesus Overhears
Jesus was moved by this father’s love.
He rose up immediately and went with Jairus.
But on the way, messengers from Jairus’ house brought a crushing report:
“Your daughter is dead. Don’t trouble the Teacher anymore.”
Can you imagine the pain that pierced Jairus’ heart?
But Jesus overheard.
Ignoring their words, He turned to Jairus and said:
“Don’t be afraid. Just trust Me.”
🏠 At Jairus’ House
When they arrived, the scene was heartbreaking.
Unrestrained weeping.
Chaos.
Confusion.
People were mourning loudly.
But Jesus spoke on Jairus’ behalf:
“Why all this weeping and commotion? The child isn’t dead — she’s only asleep.”
The people laughed in bitter mockery.
So Jesus sent them all out.
✝ The Miracle
Jesus took:
The father and mother,
And His closest disciples — Peter, James, and John —
into the room where the girl lay.
He took the little girl’s hand and said:
“Talitha koum” — “Get up, little girl!”
The girl jumped up and walked around!
Her parents were overwhelmed with joy.
🌟 Lessons for Us
Life brings moments of great distress.
Maybe God has promised you something.
You’ve trusted Him and started walking with Him.
But now, voices around you say:
👉 “It’s too late.”
👉 “It’s already dead.”
👉 “Why bother Jesus anymore?”
What will you do?
Jesus is still saying:
“My son, don’t be afraid! Just believe Me.”
“My daughter, don’t be afraid! Just believe Me.”
✍ Final Reflection
Jairus risked everything — his pride, his position, his dignity — for the sake of his daughter.
👉 Faith is risky.
👉 Faith is costly.
👉 Faith is worth it.
The question is:
Whose voice will you listen to?
The voice of discouragement?
Or the voice of Jesus saying, “Just believe.”
