The importance of Repentance
Follow us on
From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” – Matthew 4 : 17
Have you repented? Have you confessed your sins? Do you know about repentance? So, what is repentance?
First of all, do you know God? Do you know the characters of God? If you don’t know God’s character please turn to Psalms 103 : 8,
1. God is merciful and tender towards those who don’t deserve it; means he is Compassionate.
2. He is slow to get angry; He is Merciful.
3. He is full of kindness and love. He is a Gracious Father.
4. He is a long – suffering God.
5. God doesn’t scold always.
6. God is not angry always.
These are the primary characters of our loving God. He is slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He has not punished us based on our sins. He doesn’t reward according to our iniquities.
John 3 : 17 says,
Why did Jesus come? He did not come to condemn and destroy the world. But to save the world through him.
God is a compassionate God. He is merciful. He is a long – suffering God. He doesn’t like to condemn anyone. But Jesus came to the world to save us.
First, you should understand this. When you know this, immediately you will know your sin. Again you will repent immediately. If you don’t understand this, go to God’s feet. Ask Jesus; Ask him, ‘Jesus please show my all sins. Please show all my dirtiness. Please show me Lord. Please show my heart condition. Please show my flesh condition. Definitely Jesus will speak with you. Jesus will touch you. Your sins will be cleansed by his blood. Jesus says 13 sins are hidden in human heart.
Mark 7 : 21 says about these sins,
1. Evil thoughts
2. Adulterous
3. Fornication
4. Murder
5. Theft
6. Covetousness
7. Wickedness
8. Deceit
9. Lasciviousness
10. Evil eye
11. Blasphemy
12. Pride
13. Foolishness
Go to the Lord’s feet and pray about this verse. Examine your heart by meditating upon this words. Jesus will speak to you definitely. Repent for the sins which God shows you.
Also, Galatians 5 : 17 – 21 says,
17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
18 But when you are directed by the Spirit, you are not under obligation to the law of Moses.
19 When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,
21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
When we know these sins, we will realize that we are sinners. Ask God’s pardon and reconcile for your sins.
When we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to cleanse us from our sins and give us salvation.
Let us search our hearts and repent and get the best gift of Salvation from God.
